Nestled in the heart of Greece, Thesilankiai is a place that’s not just steeped in history and natural beauty but is also a hidden gem for food enthusiasts.
I had the privilege of visiting this enchanting destination not once but twice – first for a work event and later for a rendezvous to meet a Greek friend.
During my culinary adventures, he introduced me to some of the most delightful hidden food treasures I can’t wait to share with you. So, pack your taste buds and join me as we embark on a gastronomic journey through Thesilankiai!
1. The Seaside Taverna – Fresh Catch Galore:
One of the things I love most about Thesilankiai is its proximity to the sparkling Aegean Sea. On my second visit, I encountered a charming seaside taverna serving the freshest catch.
This place is a seafood lover’s paradise, from grilled octopus to succulent shrimp saganaki. The secret ingredient? Locally sourced, of course!
2. BEYOND The Walls – Mediterranean Magic:
Olive trees are abundant in Thesilankiai, and it’s no surprise that olives and olive oil play a significant role in local cuisine.
Beyond the walls, tucked away among ancient olive trees, offers a mesmerizing blend of Mediterranean flavours. Their signature dish, a perfectly seasoned lamb souvlaki with an aromatic olive tapenade, is a must-try.
3. Yia Yia’s Kitchen – Timeless Tradition:
Yia Yia’s Kitchen is the place to be for an authentic taste of Greek home cooking. “Yia Yia” means grandmother in Greek; the recipes here are handed down through generations. We stayed in and wanted a take out, and this is legit the place to go!
From moussaka to spanakopita, every dish tells a story of tradition and love. Make sure to save room for dessert; their baklava is heavenly.
4. Ble Vin – Sip and Savor:
Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or a casual sipper, the cellar’s knowledgeable staff will guide you to the perfect vintage to complement your meal.
5. Μπουγάτσα Άρτος και Γλυκό Café-Bakery – Sweet Delights:
No culinary journey is complete without indulging in something sweet, and Thesilankiai has its precious secret – Μπουγάτσα Άρτος και Γλυκό Café-Bakery.
This delightful pastry is a local speciality, and the Μπουγάτσα Άρτος και Γλυκό Café-Bakery is where you’ll find the flakiest, most mouthwatering versions.
Whether filled with custard, cheese, or a combination, it’s a sweet treat you won’t soon forget. Not only sweet treats, we enjoyed a lovely nibble of sandwiches and refreshments as well.
