This is a motivational blog to show you that you can achieve what you want if you set your mind to it!
I have always been very interested in marketing media and the social side of the employment industry, but getting a job in such a field is difficult – especially if you haven’t got a degree!

I enrolled myself in the Edinburgh long life learning course which means you can you can study part time and you choose your courses which amount to a certain amount of credits that you need to gain your certificate.
This obviously gives you the learning materials but I’ve always believed the best way to learn something is to actually do it!

When I moved to Edinburgh in June 2012 was uncertain about what I wanted to do career-wise, I was also going through a hard time so my motivation was almost non-existent! One day I decided to start my own blog.
I had no idea what I was doing, or what it entailed, but I can confirm that google was my number one tutor. When I first started people probably thought ‘what is she on about?!’
But I’m now proud to announce I have more than 12K followers, and I’m being introduced to brands and companies that I would never have dreamt I’d have to opportunity to work with. All through being myself, being out there and honest, you don’t know until you try!
Most people have worked in jobs where they felt they weren’t appreciated for their talents or where their work was a little slower than others, but I truly believe that if you truly want something and work hard enough, you will get it!
Sometimes being told you aren’t too good for that promotion or not academic enough! Well, Walt Disney was told he wasn’t creative enough! Introducing – Edinburgh Bloggers Conference!
It all started (like most stories) with a girl at home with her laptop, and cats (obviously!) The idea in my head of what I wanted it to entail, which I had worked on prior with Colin (Founder of Social Tailor, who helped come up with it!) In May at the Edinburgh Apple store, but how would I fit it all together like a puzzle?

I contacted a few companies who I had work experience with, and they helped me along the way. Things got a bit overwhelming, and I realized I couldn’t do it alone, so I found a fantastic team to work alongside me!
Goes to show, doesn’t matter how smart you are or how many certificates you have, put the effort in and it will pay off!
After a lot of hard work, coffee, trying not to spam companies (and cuddles with the cats) we are proud to say we now have over 17 sponsors on board supporting us on the event day.
We also have 13 speakers- two of whom have taken time out of their busy schedule to fly to the event which is taking place at the fantastic venue ‘Whitespace’ which is in the centre of Edinburgh.

The event itself involves panel workshops, a ‘talk show’, keynote speakers, Irn-Bru pink pong, an open bar, workshops, and fantastic attendance!

This is all happening this Saturday the 17th of June 2017 and we can not wait to show everyone what we have in store. I am so happy to say that the support has been phenomenal, and we have high hopes for the event!

As the event is coming up and my ‘work’ and planning has decreased, I have come to realize that I have learnt professionally how to approach people, address them and talk to them in a certain manner. It’s knowing your audience and being professional but still being yourself.
You will make mistakes, and burn bridges in the worst cases, but you don’t know until you try! I guess the endnote is, be yourself and pursue your dreams!
I’m proof that you can get what you want if you work hard enough for it and learn to deal with all the blips because, believe me, there were quite a few blips! It’s not about the amount of studying you’ve done or the amount of money you have. It’s about personality and passion.
We look forward to creating our next exciting event!
