Dark Mode Off / On

When we let a puppy into our lives, we do so because we’re ready to spread the love. We’ve heard that dogs are man’s (or woman’s) best friend, and we want in on the action. Before you even meet them, you imagine you and your pup will be BFFs for life.

This is why it can be such a shock when your puppy is a whirlwind rather than a steady pal. You might imagine evenings on the sofa, but your puppy will have other ideas.

Sometimes, the difference between dreams and reality is so severe that people take their pups straight back.

While there’s every chance they’ll grow up to be the companion you’ve always wanted; they may be far from that right now. Sadly, that can hinder your relationship from day one.

To ensure that doesn’t happen, we’re going to look at how you can address a few of the problems that stop owners from falling in love immediately.

Chew marks on your favourite handbag

Your puppy means a lot to you, but so does your Dolce and Gabbana handbag.

The trouble is, puppies are both playful and teething. That means there’s a real risk of items. You can bet you’ll find it hard to love that little fluff ball when you find a half-chewed Prada between their paws.

But, if this happens, it’s your fault. You’re the one who should keep them out of rooms in which they can get up to mischief.

You should also provide plenty of chew toys they can munch on. Taking care of these things can both make you a better dog owner, and keep your designer pieces safe.

Accidents on the carpet

The last thing you want is a puppy accident on your cream carpet. But you’ll get that if you take your eye off the ball. Puppies have no understanding of toilet training.

This can quickly destroy your relationship.

Hence, you need to tackle training as soon as possible. Before bringing your pup home, you should also invest in puppy pee pads for crucial places.

You can then view more here if you need to invest in this further. Ultimately, you want to get your pup asking to go out as soon as possible. Sleepless nights

Sleepless nights are also pretty undesirable. You expect them from a baby but not so much from a pup. The trouble is, your puppy is frightened and probably used to sleeping with other dogs. As such, it’s not unusual for them to cry when you leave them at night.

Though tempting, you should never bring a pup into your bed to help them settle. This can lead to all manner of damaging possessive behaviour.

Instead, consider something like a puppy crate, which can become a safe place for your pup to sleep. Try, too, to stick to a regular bedtime so that they fast get into the routine and settle down rather than howling.
