If there’s one thing that never goes out of style, it’s a good cup of coffee. And if you happen to find yourself wandering through The Hague in 2025, you’ll quickly realise the city is buzzing with new cafés, espresso bars, and creative food spots. But among the endless options, one place continues to stand out — the warm and welcoming Café Almondo, tucked just steps away from The Hague Central Station on Korte Poten 46.
The Hague has become a hotspot for independent cafés built around community, craft and personality, and Café Almondo fits perfectly into this new era of coffee culture. Friendly faces, beautifully made drinks, and a menu inspired by true Italian simplicity make this place feel like home the moment you walk in.
I first discovered Café Almondo while searching for a cosy spot that didn’t feel rushed or overly polished. Instead, I found a café with a heartbeat — a place run with passion by owner Anali and her husband, who have poured their soul into this business since opening their doors back in 2016.

The Charm Behind the Coffee
The moment you step inside, you notice the calm warmth of the space. There’s something incredibly inviting about the classic décor, the soft hum of conversations, and the way the staff greet everyone as if they’ve known them for years. According to Anali, this isn’t accidental — it’s the soul of Almondo.
“We want every guest to leave with a satisfying and comforting feeling,” she explains. And honestly, they achieve exactly that.
From their perfectly foamed cappuccinos to their fresh Italian-inspired sandwiches, the café balances tradition with a modern twist. Their Caprese, made with authentic Italian ingredients, remains one of their top sellers and tastes like something straight out of a sunny Roman side street.
“I’d much rather hang out in a cafe. That’s where things are really happening.“ – Joe Sacco

Owner Anali has made significant progress in starting this tasty business with her husband and hard-working team, growing her network, and achieving both local and international success.
With their super commitment and hands-on social media! “Wil jij alvast de zon aanzetten? Dan schenk ik zo de koffie.”

How It All Began
When I asked Anali what inspired her to launch the café, her answer was simple but powerful:
“I always wanted to do something of my own.”
In a city as international and fast-paced as The Hague, opening an independent espresso bar is no small task. Yet Almondo has carved out its own identity with consistency, charm, and honest hospitality. Their growth in both local and international popularity is a testament to their hard work — and their smart, hands-on social media presence doesn’t hurt either.
One of my favourite Dutch phrases they use online is:
“Wil jij alvast de zon aanzetten? Dan schenk ik zo de koffie.”
Loosely meaning: “If you switch on the sun, I’ll pour the coffee.”
It sums them up — warm, fun, and a little bit poetic.

What Makes Almondo Different in 2025
In a year when every café is trying to reinvent itself, Almondo stays loyal to what works: quality, warmth, and people.
Their answer when asked how they stand out is honest.
“This espresso bar has a soul,” Anali says. And she’s right. It’s not just a place to grab a drink — it’s the atmosphere, the rhythm, the feeling that you’re part of something small but meaningful.
If she were to sit down as a customer?
“Espresso, all the way.”
A true Italian at heart.
To describe the café in three words, she chooses:
Customer-friendly, classic, and the perfect place to watch the world pass by.
And truly, it is. Located so close to the centre, the constant flow of cyclists, commuters, tourists and regulars passing by creates the perfect backdrop for people-watching.

Advice for Future Café Owners
Running a café is romantic in theory — but a marathon in reality.
When I asked for her advice for aspiring café owners, Anali didn’t sugarcoat it.
“You must prepare mentally and physically. Even when the shop is closed, you’re still coming up with ideas for advertising, social media, drinks, food — everything.”
Her honesty is refreshing and exactly why Almondo has flourished.

The Story Behind the Name
I had to ask — where did “Almondo” come from?
“Well, the short answer is that we thought about almonds… but that’s a silly joke. Since we’re an Italian espresso bar, we wanted the name to connect with that. Mondo means world in Italian, so Almondo felt right.”
A name with meaning, humour, and personality — just like the café itself.

Why Café Almondo Stays a Favourite
Every time I return to The Hague, Almondo is one of the first places I revisit. There’s something grounding about sitting near the window with a warm espresso, watching the city move while the staff greet locals by name.
It’s a place that feels intentionally unhurried — a rare thing in 2025 when everything feels fast and digital. Here, you slow down without trying. You breathe. You enjoy. You listen to the soft murmur of conversation and the buzz of life outside the windows.
For a few hours, you get to be part of their world.
Final Thoughts
If you’re in The Hague, Café Almondo deserves a spot on your list — whether you’re craving a flaky pastry, a proper cappuccino, or a cosy corner to unwind. Tag them, share your photos, and let them know what you ordered. Chances are, they’ll remember you the next time you walk in.
Café Almondo is more than an espresso bar.
It’s a small world of warmth, care, and great coffee — just like the name promises.
