Here We Go Again? Maybe… Just maybe.

The ABBA-fuelled fever dream that is Mamma Mia! might just be making a grand return for a third outing—and we’re already breaking out the sequins and disco boots in anticipation. But is it actually happening? Let’s dig into all the juicy details, the cast rumours, the possible setlist, and when we might see Mamma Mia 3 (if at all).

Mamma Mia 3: Release Date, Cast, Songs, Everything We Know

Is Mamma Mia 3 happening?

While nothing is set in stone, creator Judy Craymer has kept the dream alive, staying in close contact with the star-studded cast. Christine Baranski and Pierce Brosnan both confirmed chats with Craymer in 2024, with Brosnan telling The Hollywood Reporter:

“I believe that my fellow thespians would all jump at the chance to go and do Mamma Mia 3. I think it’s doable. Of course, it’s always about the story, but I’d definitely welcome the opportunity to go back.”

Even Meryl Streep—who famously bowed out of Mamma Mia 2 as a ghostly presence—hinted at a return, joking that they could bring her back with a soap opera-style twist.

And the biggest news? Back in 2023, Craymer herself promised Mamma Mia 3 “will happen.“. So, we might just get our wish!

Mamma Mia 3 Potential Release Date

If Mamma Mia 3 follows tradition, we’re looking at another sun-soaked July release. The first two films landed in cinemas in July 2008 and July 2018, so a 2026 release seems the most likely—assuming production kicks off soon. One thing’s for sure: we’re not waiting another decade. (Right, Universal?)

Mamma Mia 3 Cast: Who’s Coming Back?

If (or when) Mamma Mia 3 happens, expect all your favourites to return:

  • 🎤 Amanda Seyfried (Sophie Sheridan) After flip-flopping on the idea, she’s now fully on board, saying “beyond yes” to a third film.
  • 🎤 Christine Baranski & Julie Walters (Tanya & Rosie) Because of a Mamma Mia! movie without these two? Unthinkable.
  • 🎤 Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth & Stellan Skarsgård (Sam, Harry, & Bill) The iconic trio of daddies is ready to return. Brosnan confirmed he was in, and Skarsgård said he wouldn’t need to read the script.
  • 🎤 Lily James (Young Donna): We might sit this out unless we get more flashbacks.
  • 🎤 Cher (Ruby Sheridan): Given her fun in Here We Go Again, we’d bet on another show-stopping performance.

And what about Meryl Streep? If anyone can make a miraculous resurrection happen, it’s Mamma Mia!

Mamma Mia 3 Songs: What’s Left in the ABBA Vault?

Both films have already raided ABBA’s greatest hits, but there’s still plenty of gold left:

  • I Still Have Faith in You—a newer ABBA track, perfect for an emotional reunion.
  • The Visitors: A dramatic, theatrical banger waiting for a cinematic moment.
  • Summer Night City Because, let’s be honest, this series thrives on summery chaos.
  • Just Like That: A deep cut, but we trust the Mamma Mia! magic.

Of course, we’ll need ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Dancing Queen’, and ‘Super Trouper’ to make their usual (and totally necessary) appearances.

Mamma Mia 3 Trailer: Any Footage Yet?

Not a single frame has been shot, so we’re out of luck on this one. But if (when?) production begins, expect a trailer drop around six months before release.

So, Will Mamma Mia 3 Happen?

It’s looking very likely. The cast is on board, Universal is interested, and Judy Craymer insists it’s a matter of “when,” not “if.” So, grab your flares, warm up your vocal cords, and get ready to head back to Kalokairi. Mamma Mia! Here we (probably) go again!
