Hello, gamers and animal enthusiasts! Have you ever fancied roaming the streets of Toronto as a cheeky raccoon?
Well, gather your virtual rubbish bins because “Trash Panda,” the newest gaming hit from Toronto, is here to whisk you off on a nocturnal escapade like no other!
The Game That’s the Talk of Toronto
Created by Toronto-based filmmaker Jason Leaver, “Trash Panda” offers a virtual romp through the city’s most iconic neighbourhoods – from the charming streets of Cabbagetown to the sandy shores of The Beaches, and even a sneak peek into the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant.
A Pandemic Project Turned Gaming Gem
Leaver, originally hailing from Oakville, began crafting this gem during the 2021 lockdowns. What started as a bit of a lark with some game assets quickly garnered a hearty thumbs-up online.

“I had this animated raccoon, a bin, something resembling a game and chucked it online. The response was brilliant – everyone wanted to play this ‘trash panda’ game, and just like that, the title was born!”

From Oakville to ‘Trash Panda’ Fame
Leaver initially imagined the project would be a quick few months’ endeavour, but it blossomed into a years-long journey of learning and creating.
The game, now available on Steam for a mere £9.99, invites players to experience Toronto’s nightlife in a rather unconventional manner – causing a ruckus by knocking over bins and creating the biggest mess possible!
A Tail of Two Gamers
“Trash Panda” is designed to be a laid-back, chill experience, but don’t be fooled – it can get quite competitive, especially with the younger crowd.
“Adults approach it with a bit of a giggle, while the kids are dead serious – no bin is safe from being overturned,”
Leaver
Looking Ahead
What began as a hobby has now ignited a passion for game development in Leaver, who’s already pondering a more story-driven game for his next project.
But for now, “Trash Panda” is a roaring success, exceeding sales expectations and proving that Toronto indeed loves a game with a bit of cheeky charm.
“Trash Panda” joins the ranks of video games set in or paying homage to Toronto, including the likes of “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game” and “Far Cry: Blood Dragon.”
It’s a testament to the city’s love for fun, creativity, and, evidently, raccoons! So, why not take a walk on the wild side and see what all the fuss is about? Grab your red toque, and let the bin-tipping begin!
