FISHLORD’s music is a wild ride through his roots in nu-metal, punk, and rock. ‘BROKEN’ is no exception. Written in late 2023, during a time of deep personal reflection, the song is an emotional rollercoaster. It starts off with gentle melodic rock vibes, then BAM! You’re hit with a powerful screamo chorus. It’s like a musical sucker punch – in the best way possible.
FISHLORD teamed up with his good friend Goodie for this track. Together, they’ve created a sonic landscape that perfectly mirrors the emotional depth of the song’s theme. FISHLORD said, “I believe every educator should be concerned with the fates of young people everywhere, and at that moment, I felt dismayed and helpless at how best to support them. Goodie’s verse adds such a beautiful, meaningful layer to the song.”

Fishland shared, “As a child of immigrants, I put so much emphasis on choosing the most ‘stable’ or ‘professional’ paths, and it stripped me of my sense of self. Revisiting my musical roots in metal and screamo helped me feel seen and connected. I hope this project helps others feel the same way.”
About FISHLORD
For those new to Fishland, here’s a quick rundown. He’s a Trinidadian American musician, author, and educator based in Brooklyn, NY. Growing up, the hardcore and metal scene helped him express his feelings and break free from third-culture kid expectations.
Now, he’s on a mission to help others do the same and champion the Black, brown, and West Indian alt. and hardcore scenes. Under his previous moniker, Nafets, he racked up over 8 million streams on Spotify and landed sync placements with The CW, Netflix, BET+, Hulu, and more. Now, as FISHLORD, he’s leaning into his nu-metal, punk, and rock roots.
