There’s no doubt that choosing to do your landscaping is the best way for a lot of people to go. Not only do you save a lot of money by not hiring professionals to do a job, but you’re also going to enjoy a lot of time outside. Landscaping is a good practice and a great way to spend the afternoon.

Any custom landscape design will need various tools, from essential to0 high-tech, to get the job done right. Here are some of the tools you need to do your landscaping.

Software: Yes, believe it or not, a good landscaping program can be essential when designing the layout of your lawn and garden. I use the Punch! Master Landscape & Home Design software. I repurchased this program in 2003 for my wife, and we’ve used it a lot since then.

The 3D Photoview technology allows us to take digital photos of our home and garden and then make any changes to the screen before putting them into effect in our yard.

The PlantFinder allows us to find plants that are best suited to the soil and climate conditions in which we live and even has a calculator to help us estimate the costs of plants from different stores. This is just as high-tech as I get regarding landscaping, though.

Lawnmower

You may not realize it, but lawn mowing is an essential part of any landscape. A lawnmower is, therefore, a critical part of your landscaping. Buying a lawnmower can be a tricky business-you can get models with everything but a kitchen sink.

A second-hand lawnmower that works can be just as good as a brand-new model right from the catalog. If you have a large area to mow, you’ll probably want to invest in a riding lawn mower to save time and aching muscles.

Weed Whacker

There are points on your lawn that your mower will not reach, around the fences and right next to the patios, around any fruit trees or berry canes.

You’re going to need a good weed wacker for these. The best models come with several attachments, suitable for cutting down various weeds, especially if you’ve slackened and allowed some of the more challenging types to grow.

These could be the death of the average string-and-coil whacker, and you’ll need some suitable plastic to stand up to them.

Tools Every Do-It-Yourself Landscaper Needs

Every landscaper needs several other tools, most relatively low-tech compared to the ones mentioned above.

A variety of shovels, rakes, and tools are essential, as are a good pair of gloves. All of these tools will depend on what you have planted in your landscaping, and even more complicated designs may require some basic knowledge of electricity, carpentry, and hydroponics.
