Extra fat around the waistline is a significant risk factor for heart disease and diabetes, but there are many non-invasive ways to eliminate fat in this area. But the question is, how to reduce excess fat.
These strategies include exercise, calorie restriction, green tea, high-fibre diets, and chromium. Advanced treatments like low-level laser irradiation (LLLI) use low-intensity light to reduce belly fat.
A study at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, by Kramer et al., found that LLLI reduces subcutaneous fat.
Consumption of lipids through food is necessary for normal physiological function, but excess lipid deposits in adipose tissue can contribute to obesity and metabolic disease when stored in excess.
In general, obese individuals have larger waist circumferences than non-obese individuals.
Intraabdominal fat (also known as visceral fat) is a form of body fat that accumulates in the abdominal region and has a robust correlation to metabolic complications.
Non-invasive Fat Loss Treatments
A variety of non-invasive techniques for fat loss have been developed over the past several decades.
Lasers have become the main non-invasive subcutaneous fat reduction method. Low-level laser light (LLLI) reduces subcutaneous abdominal fat.
Calorie counting, green tea extract, high-fibre diets, and chromium are the main non-invasive ways to reduce waist circumference. These approaches diminish appetite and intestinal digestion.
Exercise itself decreases abdominal fat by increasing energy expenditure through caloric restriction. Moderate aerobic exercise, such as walking, helps individuals burn additional calories while performing their daily activities.
Additional non-invasive treatments, such as low-level laser irradiation and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (GCSF) therapy, have shown promising results in reducing intraabdominal fat.
However, these techniques are still under development and require further research before being widely used in clinical practice.
Individuals should consult their physician before beginning any non-invasive treatment to reduce abdominal fat.
Controlled Diet
A combination of caloric restriction and dietary modifications can help individuals reduce weight.
Caloric restriction restricts calorie intake to a certain level below normal. At the same time, when people talk about dietary changes, they usually mean eating less fat or cholesterol.
Calorie Restriction for Fat Loss
Calorie restrictions are often used as a tool for weight loss. Studies have shown that people who limit their calorie intake to less than the recommended daily amount see a decrease in belly fat.
In addition, people with overweight and obesity showed lower levels of intraabdominal adipose tissue after a year of calorie restriction treatment.
Turmeric
A study showed that turmeric could reduce fat cell numbers by half. Another study showed it increased bile acid synthesis, reducing fat cell number.
Turmeric colours are American mustard yellow. Curry powders are made from it, and its health benefits are being explored. Turmeric contains anti-inflammatory curcumin. Hence, metabolic syndrome and arthritis patients may benefit from it. It enhances some anti-cancer medications.
Curcumin inhibits precursor fat cell differentiation, possibly explaining its relationship with lower fat cell formation in mice.
Ginger Extract
The ginger extract also breaks down and prevents body fat. Ginger root extract prevented adipocyte fatty acid-binding protein from transferring fat to fat cells in one research.
This may minimize fat storage and increase fat breakdown. Ginger improves circulation, oxygenating organs like the liver. An overloaded liver signals the brain to store more food as fat, which can help weight reduction.
Green Tea Extract Supplementation
A study done on mice showed that green tea extract increased thermogenesis and fat oxidation, thus potentially reducing body weight gain.
In a small Metabolic study, participants who took a specific decaffeinated green tea extract lost body weight and belly fat over 12 weeks without changing their diet. Many methods can help you lose intraabdominal fat.
Low-level laser irradiation and GCSF therapy have reduced abdominal fat non-invasively. These methods need more research before being extensively employed in clinical practice.
